Here are a few stats on the St. Bernard Housing Development and the surrounding neighborhood.
We were heading to the other side of town and noticed that they were in full swing of demolishing the St. Bernard Housing Development. We came back to take pictures but I left the camera’s SD card at home and then locked us out of the car! Thanks Ana and Pam for rescuing us.
We came back the next evening and took these pictures. I have a strong opinion about the demolision of housing, especially in a city without enough affordable housing. It is not the structure that makes them a project! That is the result of institutional racism and poverty. Structures, weather it is a condo or publicaly subsidized home, is made of the same materials: brick, morter, paint and wood. Some of the “projects” in New Orleans will become Condos!
